HONG KONG CHINA WOMEN PREPARE FOR ASIA RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP 2026

Hong Kong China Women’s XVs head to Kazakhstan at the start of May to take part in this year’s Asia Rugby Emirates Women’s Championship.
In 2025 the three-team round robin tournament was held in Japan, with Hong Kong China coming runners-up to the hosts thanks to a 29-12 win over Kazakhstan. For 2026, Kazakhstan will host the tournament, with fixtures as follows:
- Kazakhstan vs Japan – Tuesday 28 April
- Japan vs Hong Kong China – Tuesday 5 May
- Kazakhstan vs Hong Kong China – Sunday 10 May
Hong Kong China will be looking to build on a strong performance in November, when the Hong Kong China XVs Select beat Germany and Belgium to lift the 3 Lander Cup. The tournament also acts as key preparation for the new WVX Global Series which takes place in September. This sees Hong Kong China take on Brazil, Fiji, the Netherlands, Samoa and Spain as the teams ranked 13-18 in World Rugby’s rankings (tournament host TBD).
John Haggart has been working with Hong Kong China Rugby since October in as Strategic & Technical Consultant for the Women’s 15s programme, and will continue in this role to oversee the ARWC campaign. John brings a wealth of experience from coaching in Japan, France and his New Zealand homeland, where he most notably coached the Black Ferns for their Rugby World Cup win in 2021.

Bella Millo will be the Lead Coach for the campaign, before leaving her role with Hong Kong China Rugby to take on the role of Head Coach of Manusina Samoa. Bella will also vacate her role as Women’s Club Coaching Officer for Valley RFC Women, from which HKCR and Valley RFC will begin recruitment for a replacement. Hong Kong China Rugby would like to thank Bella for the positive and inspirational impact she has made to women’s rugby across Hong Kong.
For the Asia Rugby Women’s Championship, Bella will be supported by a Coaching and Performance team of:
- Charli Jacoby, Hong Kong Football Club Women’s CCO Charli Jacoby (Assistant Coach)
- Gus Leger, Valley RFC Men’s CCO (Assistant Coach)
- Terry Sibanda, Kowloon Rugby Club Women’s CCO (Assistant Coach)
- Will Webster, who returns to Hong Kong after coaching on the representative Sevens and Men’s XVs programmes from 2019 to 2022 (Assistant Coach)
- Sophie Raine (Lead Physio)
- Ian Bonnet (Lead S&C)
- Jake Martin (Performance Analyst)
- Selene Wang (Team Manager)
